Why did we choose this?
All renters go through disrepair via their different landlords whether that's social or private so it's a great campaign connector. Thinking about power and how we can identify who is powerful, how we get them to use their power to achieve what we want + how we build our power- mainly people + influential power
What are our campaign aims // focuses?
- Focus on strategic disrepair disputes for private renters that we can win, increase our power as a union and our influence in the borough. The targets will be private landlords and estate agents.
- Focus on the disrepair of social housing blocks like Milford Towers. This will be building the capacity of block reps and building renter power and to influence the council and housing association to make the repairs. The targets are councils, housing associations mainly. Centrally, LRU is trying to lobby central government to implement national choices that will influence local councils also
- MT - Lack of maintenance/Disrepair as immediate point to rally people around, share MT experience, strategic goal campaign to bring all housing associations in-house (where they are dysfunctional, no point forcing that issue in instances where residents are mostly happy with the one they have, like in Lewisham Park Towers) as Council is doing that to Lewisham Homes
